Abstract
The author, a Turkish sociologist, was connected with the Village Institute of Hasanoglan from 1942-1946 and during that time conducted a study of the village (from Nov. 1944-Sept. 1945) with the aid of his students at the Institute. His aim was '1) to give the students a descriptive and concrete piece of research work written as simply as possible, so that they can understand and use it as a model study; 2) to try to determine as objectively as possible the changes brought to the village by the advent of a railway in the vicinity.' (The study thus covers the period from 1915-1944.) The interviewing and questionnaires used provided detailed information on the population, occupational specialization, agricultural economy, family, education, administration and religion of the village as well as its natural surroundings and communication with the outside. The reader will note many additional typographical errors in the text. Bibliographic references will be found as footnotes in the text.
