By: Vasconcellos, Simão de.
AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This religious history of Brazil was written in the seventeenth century (1662). The part called 'Livro primeiro e segundo das Noticias antecedents, curiosas, e necessarias das cousas do Brazil' is included between the two volumes on the Chronicle. It contains a few pages on the Indians which are based on written sources since at the time when Vasconcellos wrote his work, the native culture of the coast of Brazil had practically disappeared. A few data on material culture have been excerpted since they do not occur elsewhere.
