Abstract
This account by a Spanish official who held office in Cuzco in 1560 offers a brief summary of the organization of the Inka state as it existed in pre-Columbian times. Inka expansion in both its military and religious aspects, tribute and taxation, government regulation of economic activities, and labor organization are briefly treated. Much of the material presented is based on Inka records and recollections of informants rather than first hand observation of a working state since the author did not come to Peru till some years after the conquest. The index, vocabulary list, and lists of names for the entire Markham volume appear with this source and apply as well to the de Molina and Pachacuti-yamqui Salcamayhua accounts which are also in this file (documents 8 and 7).
