AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This monograph, based on a field study made in Nayón, a Quichua-speaking Ecuadorian village located in Quito municipio, Pichincha province, is basically an ethnographic community study, with emphasis on the indigenous economy in terms of its relationship to the total Ecuadorian economic system, and on the effects of acculturation on various cultural elements and social organization. Additional data relate to the cultural history and geography of the area, population characteristics (e.g., residence, age, sex), marriage, ceremonial structure and organization, farming, life cycle events, foods, dwellings, fiestas, and town meetings.
