ARUTAM and culture change

Abstract
In this article, Boster reviews the literature on the ARUTAM, the Jivaro soul. He compares the work of Harner (see document nos. 32 and 34), Karsten (document no. 1), and the Salesian missionary Father Pellizaro. Differences among them he attributes to cultural change among the Jivaro, themselves However, he also acknowledges that Pellizaro's attempt to compare and synthesize Jivaro and Judeo-Christian thought, achieved a broader, more comprehensive understanding of the concept of ARUTAM, which is partly corroborated in more recent ethnographies
