By: De Puydt, Lucien.

Abstract
In 1861 the author was commissioned to undertake a scientific exploration of Darien by a French company which failed in 1862. New explorations were begun in 1865. De Puydt was looking for the best route across Panama to construct a canal. His observations on the Cuna Indians are the result of several years travel and exploration in the area. A short English-Cuna vocabulary is appended and will be of use to students of comparative linguistics.
