Abstract
In this article, Cosminsky and Whipple look at ethnic relations in an ethnically mixed Belize town. First, they examine ethnic identity and stereotypes, in terms of occupations, language, and religion. They find that ethnic and economic stratification coincide. Although ethnic tensions exist, ethnic conflict is rare. Next, they look at intermarriage and marital patterns. They discover interethnic mating in spite of an ideal of endogamy held by all groups and discuss some of the reasons why this is so.
