Abstract
Wrangell led an expedition under the orders from the Russian Admiralty department which was to make an accurate survey of the northwest coast of Siberia. He gives a good summary of the Yakut culture, with particular emphasis upon their material culture. Information was obtained from living among the scattered tribes of Yakuts around a broad territory and by talking to these people about their customs and history. Although it is sketchily treated, the material on the different characteristics of the Yakut of the Aniuj as compared to those around Werchojansk and elsewhere is of some interest. The descriptive material on this tribe is fairly accurate although it has been dealt with in greater detail elsewhere.
