Abstract
This source is a compact fact-filled ethnographic summary of the Selkups prior to 1917 based on data by G. N. Prokofyeva. Hunting and fishing activities are discussed with relative detail; dwellings, diet, social structure, and religious beliefs are treated briefly. Some reference is made to graphic art and folklore. The last part of the article describes some of the economic and social changes brought about after the revolution and the resulting resettlement of the Selkups on collective farms.
