Abstract
This source contains an account of Captain Cook's visit to Tonga during the first week of October 1773 and, therefore, is one of the earliest descriptions of Tonga. Contact was made with Tongans on Eua (called Ea-Oowhe or Middleburg Island in the source) and Tongatapu (called Tonga-Tabboo or Amsterdam Island). The author provides excellent descriptions of Tongan material culture items, Tongan settlements, and land use, and provides information on the British relations with the Tongans.
