This article deals with the state of Tongan affairs from a national aggregate perspective. The major topics covered include the system of government, land tenure, agriculture, exports and imports, health, and housing. The author gathered data from government documents and interviews with Tongan administrators, Tongan citizens, and resident Europeans while he was in Tonga on military assignment for a few months.
