Sociologus, n.s.4 • Published In 1954 • Pages: 97-116

By: Firth, Raymond.

Abstract
This paper consists of a description of Tikopian magic of 'production,' 'protection,' and 'destruction,' and discusses the changes in form and content of magic which occured between the time of the author's first field trip (1928-29) and his second (1952). The magic of 'production' in fishing is used as an example and several short fishing-magic formulae are presented. Health-magic and sorcery are dealt with more briefly.
