AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This source is a discursive personal account of a doctor's visit to Yap in 1903. Extensive sections are included on Yap dwellings, bachelor houses, personal ornamentation and jewelry, songs and dances, mediums of exchange and burial rites. A long if hazy account is given of Yap religious beliefs, methods of divination, role of the soothsayer and one version of the natives' creation myth. The last third of the book is devoted to Yap grammar and vocabulary.
