Abstract
This article, written by a member of the German Colonial Government then in political control of Yap and surrounding islands, gives a concise and thorough coverage of the basic aspects of Yap ethnography, with primary emphasis on the material culture of the people. Data of a unique nature may be found in this article, particularly in relation to the following: warfare, class structure, artificial deformation, personal names, prostitution, stimulants and narcotics, etiquette, dancing and games, domestic animals, streets and houses, political organization, trade, money, weights and measures, numeration, and native industries.
