Abstract
This paper is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the Belauan mythological age -- the Uab and Milad eras and the second part with the lineage traditions of the latter period. Discussion on the Uab era centers on the creation of the Belauan Islands by the god Uab and the subsequent establishment by this being of the cosmic and socio-political order. The Milad era, which follows the Uab, continues to today. This period introduces man into the mythological picture. During the Milad era the distinction between man and god was not clear for '...both played their part on the same stage'. The second part of the paper deals with the lineage traditions of the Milad period, particularly in reference to early migrations. The author believes that these traditions do not always reflect the actual routes of migration, but instead may indicate the world view of the people
