AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This paper is on dysfunctional factionalism that is the result of the presentation of alternative choices in an acculturation situation involving nonliterate and Western nations. Given particular attention in this source are the specific acculturative changes affecting political factionalism in the society (e.g., as between nativistic and messianic elements), and how these in turn bring about changes in Belau clan and power structure, kinship system, and religious and economic structure. The data in this source are relevant to Belau only through the end of the American administration period in the late 1940s
