By: Carucci, Laurence Marshall.

Abstract
This article discusses aspects of Marshallese cosmology with particular emphasis on the ways residents of Enewetak Atoll understood the reasons that accounted for superiority of American military power. It shows that the Marshallese maintained several versions of a legend in which the United States co-opted a sacred Marshallese force called Etao to become 'the strongest country on earth.'
