Abstract
This study discusses aspects of contemporary Kiribati religiosity and spirituality. When Christianity was introduced in the prior century, many Kiribati feared they might be forced to abandon traditional religious practices, including ancestor worship. Over time, however, they accepted Christianity because mission schools provided children with good education. Converts also found ways of incorporating traditional religion practices within the different Christian denominations. For maps, glossary, and bibliography see Mason (1985).
