Adopting a child
kiribati: a changing atoll culture • [Suva, Fiji] • Published In 1985 • Pages: 39-45

Abstract
This document discusses the social functions of adoption in Kiribati society. It describes adoption in positive terms—as an institution primarily concerned with fostering love, bonding, and sharing among families, both biologically related and unrelated. The continuity of adoption in the face of recent economic changes appears to be attributable primarily to the vital role it plays in bringing people closer together. For maps, glossary, and bibliography see Mason (1985).
