Abstract
This study attempts to explain the complicated relationship of Siwais to their land. Land is owned by clans and matrilineages. Nevertheless, non-lineage members can have access to land depending on residence. Various court cases over land disputes are examined to reveal when and where rights of ownership and use are respected. The kinship structure of households and hamlets are also examined for how they relate to land ownership and use, and to the use of magical sanctions against trespassing.
