Abstract
This document presents a series of ethnographic notes on the culture history and social organization of the inhabitants of the islands of Utupua and Vankkoro, located in the southern Santa Cruz Island group. Allthough numerous subjects are discussed in the text, some of the major topics are: geography; history of European contacts; trade relations; marriage (particularly with emphasis on the bride price); agriculture; dwellings and men's houses; kinship and kin groups; the significance of the men's association in society; mythology; community social organization; property; supernatural beings; and dances and dance costumes.
