Abstract
Rentoul, a district officer in the Trobriands, refutes Malinowski's assertion that among the Trobrianders physiological fatherhood is unknown. Among the reasons given as evidence to support his contention are: the knowledge of contraception among the natives, the practice of selective animal breeding, and the statements regarding the mythical explanation of birth.
