Abstract
This article is concerned with warfare and weapons of the Trobriand Islanders, and in particular of the main island, Bwoiowa (Boyowa or Kiriwina), a number of whose districts were at war with each other before the British took control. Malinowski discusses the motives, actual warfare, aftermath of combat, weapons and war magic, as well as the 'ceremonial' role of carved and decorated weapons.
