Abstract
Trade between the Schouten Islands and the opposite New Guinea coast is an important adjunct to the Wogeo economy. A trading expedition involves the building of canoes by the entire community, the accumulation of trading goods, the performance of magical rites, and the exchange of gifts between trading partners. This paper recounts each step of the undertaking as well as providing information on navigation and the principal trading commodities.
