This document deals with the functional aspects of sacrifice among the Sakkudei, a group of people living in the interior of Siberut, the northenmost island of the Mentawei Archipelago in western Indonesia.Schefold describes the various types of sacrifices made to the ancestors and spirits and codifies them "…into a classification of sacrificial acts, with the degree of familiarity and the specificity of the hoped-for reciprocation as the variable factors" (p. 84).
