AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This article, written by a long-term missionary among the Ifugao of Kiangan, is a highly detailed description of all aspects of weaving. The author presents a complete inventory of weaving tools and describes the processing of raw materials in preparation for weaving. Described, also, are the techniques of weaving and the designs used (including, for some, the symbolism involved), as well as the finished products and their function. There are a few statements on the influence of contact over time. Included within the text are etymological and semantic data on the terms related to weaving and the finished products; at the end is a glossary of these terms. Bibliographic references are presented as footnotes within the text.
