This is a study of the health status of Seri Indians in two socioeconomically contrasting communities. The first is a less acculturated and modernized community while the other displays greater integration to the national Mexican society and global economy. The findings show a curvilinear relationship between health status and sociocultural change in which health status initially declines with increasing lifestyle incongruity in the less acculturated community but eventually improves with increasing acculturation, modernization, and income.
