AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This is a discussion of the types of change that occurred within Seri culture and society following the advent of Christian Missionaries. The most important of the changes is the conversion of the entire community into a unified Protestant cult called “Hallelujah”. The author attributes this success to the missionary strategy of introducing Christianity as a supplement to salient aspects of Seri culture, as opposed to an externally imposed disruption. Other contributing factors include the local perception of North American Christains as more wealthy and prosperous as well as the small size of the Seri population.
