The Seri Indians were originally a nomadic hunter-gatherer and sea faring people living along the coastal area of Sonora, Mexico and the Bay of California, Mexico. After contact with missionaries, most converted to Christianity and experienced increased incorporation within the Mexican state and economy. Their modern economy relies upon income from tourism and wage work in fishing enterprises.
