Abstract
A detailed examination of the modern Jicarilla Apache community as it existed around 1967, particularly in Dulce, New Mexico. The author covers the Jicarilla educational system, constitution, tribal government, religion, and economy and reviews several editions of the tribal newspaper, the Jicarilla Chieftain. Thus, a significant light is shed on the major issues and concerns shaping contemporary Jicarilla life. Historical context-beginning the first Spanish contacts in 1540- is also given.
