Abstract
This source is a brief analysis of Spanish, Mexican, and American legal procedures by which early settlers obtained land grants within territory occupied by Native Americans in what is presently the southwest portion of the United States. The author also enumerates the principal patented areas (land grants issued to private individuals) within the area historically occupied by the Jicarilla Apache.
