Abstract
This article, based on fieldwork done intermittently between 1974 and 1977, briefly describes the dances, both ceremonial and secular, that occur during the annual puberty ceremony at Mescalero. In addition to description, the author provides an interpretation of the symbolic meanings conveyed by the event. Researchers interested in Farrer's symbolic interpretations should consult Farrer (1977 [1980 copy]}, this file, for further information.
