The Western Apache and cross-cousin marriage

Abstract
This brief note is a response to an article by Kaut (Kaut's article was drawn from his larger work which may be found in Source 4) concerning the possibility that the Western Apache once practiced preferential cross-cousin marriage. White uses Goodwin's published data (see Source 1) to argue that the Apache probably never practiced cross-cousin marriage among close relatives though cross-cousin marriages between those distantly related through paternal lines may have been common.
