Abstract
San Juan is the largest and northermost of the six Tewa-speaking pueblos. This article presents a brief culture summary of San Juan and its people from approximately 1541, at the time of first European-Indian contact, to 1977. This study focuses on the geography of the region, history and prehistory, the classification of human society and the physical world, social and political organization, education and health, and the sociocultural situation as it existed in San Juan in the 1970s.
