Abstract
This article, written by a well-known archaeologist, is a description of the technique of pottery manufacture and design application by the Indians of the pueblo of San Ildefonso. As an introduction to the main theme of this article the author presents a brief statement in regard to the effects of European civilization upon the pueblo Indians. A description is then given pertinent to the topography of the area. Several excellent plates are to be found in this source illustrating a few varieties of San Ildefonso pottery, with an accompanying description of the meaning of the symbolic design elements.
