The fate of Navajo twins
American anthropologist • 66 • Published In 1964 • Pages: 883-887

Abstract
This brief communication examines Navajo conceptions of twins based on an examination of hospital and vital records coupled with primary field work. The researcher concludes that, although mythology accounts for the generally accepted conclusion about ambivalence toward twins, a negative attitude actually prevails in less acculturated areas. There is also reason to suspect neglect and higher mortality in case of twins.
