Journal of American folk-lore • 49 • Published In 1936 • Pages: 134-142
By: Wyman, Leland Clifton.
Abstract
Although previous writers on Navajo divination rites have categorically stated that diagnosticians possess no legends concerning the origin of their work, Leland C. Wyman, who was associate professor at Boston University School of Medicine at the time of this article, has unearthed two such legends. One is the origin legend of motion-in-the-hand, and the other is the origin legend of star-gazing and listening.
