Abstract
This is the earliest account on the Navajo silverwork craft. The author, an ethnologist who did many meticulous studies on various aspects of Navajo life, served as an assistant surgeon in the Army at Fort Wingate in Navajo country. In the course of his duty there, he employed two silversmiths to do work for him and the resultant observations cover their utensils, methods of working and objects produced.
