The material contained in this source was obtained from thirty elders of the Hopi tribe over a period of several months, and is thus an expression of the traditional viewpoint. This information is organized in the source into four major parts. Part One deals with the Hopi myth of Creation, and the people's successive Emergences from the previous three worlds to the present Forth World. Part Two then recounts traditional clan history relevant to their migrations over the continent until their arrival at their predestined homeland at Oraibi. Here, under Part Three, is discussed the initiation of the great annual cycle of religious ceremonies which still take place today. The final section, Part Four, then summarizes the historical period from the first contacts with the Spaniards in 1540 to the present time. This section also deals with various current Hopi problems involving local government, factional disputes, land claims against the Navajo tribe and the national government, and other political and economic controversies.
