This article discusses efforts to reintroduce Arapaho language courses in the schools. The author documents the process of working with community input to develop the curriculum which resulted in an unvarnished depiction of lived experience within the textbooks developed. By using ‘real’ stories to teach the language, the author argues that language acquisition was stronger. Also noted is the reaction of professional educators (not Arapaho) to what they deemed ‘vulgar’ curricula.
