This source is a collection of Arapaho traditions and folktales obtained principally from the Southern Arapaho of Oklahoma by Dorsey in 1901-1902 and by Kroeber in 1899-1900. Topics include: origins of the world, origins of man, origins of ceremonial lodges, Nihançan (the Arapaho Trickster), history and use of animals, history and use of plants, and other more general folktales. Comparative information about the distribution and similar tales among other North American tribes is usually presented Latin - as was the custom of the period. Information given is likely reliable though the translations are literary rather than literal.
