This study of the acculturation of the Northern Arapaho begins with a sketch of their pre-contact Plains Indian culture and discusses the changes in their way of life as a result of Western contact. The author gives details of the economy, age-graded societies, social relations, and the ‘Arapaho personality.’ The conclusions suggest that a ‘vitality’ has been lost. This document also includes a summary by Ralph Linton. Some marking decisions resulting from the original presence of four bands among the Arapaho include: the four tribal chiefs as 643, lesser chiefs as 622, the bands as 621, inter-relations between the bands as 628, and general statements on tribal government as 642.

- In marking this source it was decided to mark the four tribal chiefs for Category 643 and the lesser chiefs for Category 622. Aboriginally the tribe was composed of 4 bands. These bands have been marked for Category 621 while their inter-relations have been marked for 628. Finally, general statements about tribal government will be found in Category 642.
