Abstract
'South to Louisiana' is a comprehensive study of the development of Cajun music in Louisiana. This book, which is almost encyclopedic in its cultural dimensions, discusses the early Cajun and Cajun-Country periods, Zydeco and Blues, Swamp-Pop (a south Louisiana version of rock and roll), and the Cajun revival in music as it exists today (ca. 1986). Broven collected much of the material in this study from interviews with local participants in music (e.g., musicians and record publishers), whose stories and reminiscences, often quoted verbatim in the text, make up the major portion of this work. This book also includes brief biographical sketches of various musicians, as well as much data on the music publishing industry in Louisiana.
