Comanche baby language
International journal of American linguistics • 14 • Published In 1965 • Pages: 11-14
By: Casagrande, Joseph B. (Joseph Bartholomew).
Abstract
This document contains descriptive linguistics materials on Comanche baby talk. Included are a list of words, kinship terms, and a discussion of phonetics and reduplication in baby word formation. Because English has replaced Comanche as a first language, the words were collected from older adults. Casagrande concludes the article with a brief discussion of universals in baby languages and some suggestions about the importance of the study of language acquisition.
