The Comanche Sun Dance and Messianic Outbreak of 1873

Abstract
This brief article calls to the attention of anthropologists data on the Comanche Messianic Outbreak of 1873 contained in a book by R. N. Richardson. The outbreak was abortive and Hoebel feels this conditioned the Comanche against following the example of other Plains tribes in accepting the Ghost Dance in 1890.
