Public opinion and mutual assistance among the Montagnais-Naskapi

American anthropologist, n.s.39 • Published In 1937 • Pages: 222-228

By: Lips, Julius.

Abstract
Although the author surrounds his paper with a few theoretical notes about law and social pressures to conformity, his major interest appears to be a discussion of mutual assistance. In particular, over half the article is devoted to illustrating signalling devices used by the Montagnais-Naskapi when they need emergency help and the discussing the reactions of others to these signals.
