Montagnais-Naskapi bands and family hunting districts of the central and southeastern Labrador peninsula

Abstract
The authors develop the theory that the family ownership of hunting territories of the Montagnais-Naskapi bands is the result of the adjustment of these people to the hunting of beavers in the forest zone where the dispersion of hunters and the conservation of existing animal life is a necessity. The article includes description of migratory bands and the location of their hunting territories. For a different view of the origin of the hunting territories see Leacock (1954) of this file.
