By: Hoffman, Walter James.

Abstract
This monograph is concerned mostly with the process by which a neophite becomes a Mide' or shaman. The initiation ritual for each of the four degrees of the Mide'wiwin society is described in detail. The mnemonic devices or picture writings which serve as guides to the ritual are reproduced in the text. Very little information is given on other aspects of Ojibwa culture.
