Abstract
This article presents information on the Blackfoot hunting method of the bison drive, as reconstructed from interviews with elderly informants, comparative, historical, and archaeological research. Schaeffer emphasizes the importance to the drive's success of applied knowledge concerning the bison's sense of smell, and the procedures engaged in by the 'runners' who lured herds of animals to their deaths.
