Abstract
This source is the description of a girl's puberty ceremony and accompanying potlatch which Sapir observed in October 1910 at Alberni, British Columbia. Most of the article is taken up with a running account of the events during the potlatch, while the final section details some of the observances which a girl must undertake at the time of her first menstruation.
